About the Author

Charlie has proven experience in evaluating and delivering technical governance solutions that are aligned with real-world business operations. Having worked within 5 of the top 30 UK law firms over the last decade, he has assumed a range of IT and Governance based management rolls which have covered information governance and security - aligning him well with the GDPR and Cyber Security challenge firms face at present.

With a background in IT management and a passion for process improvement, Charlie's experience aligns him well with both the real-world business processes elements as well as the IT solutions and services that inevitably are required to facilitate an appropriate level of governance in modern business. The GDPR challenge is ultimately a balance of business and IT governance, both of which he has the proven experience in demonstrating successful outcomes against challenging operating environments and timescales.

Charlie is currently operating in a GDPR Management Consultant capacity for a top 30, law firm and is tasked with managing and mobilising the existing staff to deliver a GDPR readiness programme in time for May ’18.  The remit extends beyond GDPR as a regulation and reaches into information security (ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials) as well as the improvement of backend IT processes to truly embrace the GDPR principle of ‘data privacy by design and default’. This will be his second implementation against the ‘GDPR Essentials’ framework, and he has developed some additional supporting materials to enhance its effectiveness and reach.

Before his consultancy role, Charlie most recently moved from the Head of IT role for Hill Dickinson LLP; where he served 6 years responsible for the delivery of all IT related services for the firm’s 1300 staff, worldwide. As well as the typical IT-related responsibilities his duties included accountability for the programme delivery for all business transformation projects as well as business analysis and information governance. He is practised in bringing together the business, and IT teams towards delivering a common goal and understands that the solution needs to be pragmatic and leave a legacy of operational change.

Charlie has amassed numerous IT Service Management, process improvement qualifications and awards. He is a qualified Prince 2 project manager but more importantly has the experience and wisdom that comes through solving real-world delivery problems. With over 5 years of programme management at both business and IT levels, he has a set of skills that allow him to bolt into existing organisational structures and make demonstrable change quickly.
